During the tour we will visit fascinating sites in the Jewish Quarter and finish with an exciting hafrashat challah ceremony.
In the homes of the cohanim from the second temple period, we will partake in one of the mitzvot unique to women- hafrashat challah. We will learn the background for the mitzvah, knead the dough with our own hands, and bake delicious personal challahs.
While the challah is baking we will summarize what we learned about the women of Jerusalem with a unique interactive game.
You can incorporate into the tour an actor to play characters from the past, a meeting with residents of the Jewish Quarter, various refreshments and anything else you wish.
The tour begins at Jaffa Gate, where we will meet Mrs. Krisha Berman and hear the story of the establishment of the famous Berman bakery. We will continue to a lookout over the first neighborhood built outside the old city walls, where we will meet Yehudit Montefiore. Silently, so as not to be heard by the Jordanian forces, we will walk on to meet fighters from the War of Independence, and from there dive into Shai Agnons book and meet Tehilla, who lived between the Hassidim and Misnagdim. We will also hear the stories of Rachel, the wife of Rabbi Akiva, and the wives of the cohanim who served in the temple…
