The Company for the Preservation and Development of the Jewish Quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem (JQDC) was formed in 1969, and ever since we have been constantly engaged with fulfilling the wide range of duties with which we have been charged. JQDC's endeavors and achievements have been characterized by a broad spectrum of creative productivity over the years.
The task of preserving and rehabilitating Jewish Quarter after years of war and occupation, tourism initiatives for the development of promotion of the area are only two of the complex challenges we constantly meet, as we strive to maintain the flimsy balance between preservation and development, the delicate boundary separating the old and the new, to determine correct applications of modern technology in historic and archeological projects.
While this wide canvas of never-ending endeavor confronts the future, its strength is always derived from the past. Layers upon layers of abundant history unfold before our eyes, trails of spiritual and materialistic wealth contrast with poverty and degradation, praises of peace and lamentations of war, rebellion and surrender, times of destruction and of resurrection.
It seems there is no further need to discuss the unique character of Jerusalem, nor is it necessary to amass words on the Jewish Quarter. Endless yearnings for Jerusalem and numerous mentions in our holy books teach us of its many facets, of its boundless, unique spiritual qualities and of its abundant material treasures.
Join us on a fascinating, enthralling tour of the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, become acquainted with the historic wealth of this open, living museum, with its myriad concealed and open sites, and its innumerable layers of visible and invisible of history.
It is my hope that the rich multimedia content of this site will provide the means of achieving the aim, which is to provide a stimulus and source of inspiration that will cause you to visit, to understand and to connect , to love and to live Jerusalem.
