A letter from the Managing Director

To you, lovers and supporters of Jerusalem of all ages, from Israel and abroad,

greetings and welcome to the Holy City – welcome to the heart of the Jewish Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, the eternal capital of the Jewish people in its homeland.

The government of Israel decided to establish a company for the renovation and development of the Jewish Quarter in the Old City some eighteen months after Jerusalem was returned to us in the aftermath of the Six-Day War. From that day onwards, the company has endeavored to fulfill these goals.
I invite you all on an enthralling, thrilling and emotional tour of the Jewish Quarter, to participate and comprehend the historic treasures embedded in the streets and alleyways of this open-air museum, its sites, and the layers - visible and hidden - of its history.

The team of the Company for the Reconstruction and Development of the Jewish Quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem, which I head, believes and understands that the foundation of the strength of Israeli society rests on a bed of spirituality, values and ideas. At the center of this lies our Jewish and historical heritage in the Land of Israel in general, and in Jerusalem in particular. The achievable vision we held in front of us upon undertaking this endeavor, was the idea of offering the general public the values inherent in our heritage and history that are embedded and sometimes hidden in the many archeological sites dispersed throughout the Jewish Quarter. This will be done by constantly nurturing the tourism value of the archeological sites, the implementation of the street-sign project, by improving the quality of information on our website and above all by establishing a new tour centre that will offer a wide range of tours throughout the Quarter – enabling visitors to thoroughly and directly acquaint themselves with all the amazing sites the Quarter has to offer.
I believe with all my heart that, with the grace of God, we will be privileged to continue the building of Jerusalem, the Holy City.
